With its modern skyscrappers visitors will soon discover KYOTO's hidden beauty in the temples, palaces, and parks which ring the city center. The country has Secretary of War Henry Stimson to thanks for. He was the person responsible in presenting the case to remove Kyoto from military target list to President Truman during WWII.

He believed that Kyoto was of cultural importance, and therefore its heritage should be preserved and not destroyed. Mr Stimson visited Kyoto several times when he was governor of the Philippines in the 1920s. It was his honeymoon destination and that he was an admirer of Japanese culture. Thank you Mr Stimson.

cuba

You can call this a rush.

When I saw United Airlines offering its new route to Cuba for the first time, I made no hesitation and decided to go. I'm glad I did.

If you think of CUBA, you might thought of the Cuban crisis and Fidel Castro, the decay architecture and the classic old American cars. The Americans are coming, a new hope for the many poor inhabitants living in country. Elizabeth runs a tiny homestay at her place in a rundown neighborhood. She speaks almost no English but I could tell that she's hoping things will be better moving forward.

oslo

OSLO is one of the most expensive cities in the world. If we can budget ourselves carefully, we can still enjoy the city without feeling the burnt in our pockets.

Although it is not one of the best cities that I've seen so far, it is still a place worth visiting if you are in any of the Scandinavian countries. Some of the places worth visiting while in Oslo are Tjuvholmen neighborhood where Astrup Fearnley Museum is located, The Holmenkollbakken, site for 1952 Winter Olympics in ski jumping, and the beautiful Norwegian National Opera and Ballet by the water front.

I stayed at a place found on airbnd for the first time.

camel

My first trip in 2016 was a two-week trip to MONGOLIA. The country landscape is vast; the Orkhon Valley, is an extensive area of grassland on both banks of the Orkhon River and it includes Kharkhorum, an old capital of Chingis Khan's Empire. The grassland is still grazed by Mongolian nomadic pastoralists. The fun part was when we had to take a quick bath at one of the streams. The river was partially frozen and water was very cold. It was like a one two three done shower.

The country is not for everyone to visit at least for now in my opinion. Still it is an eye opener for travelers expecting the unexpected.

dc

I'm told that November is the best time to be in DC, as most people are not traveling to this part of the country, and it seems like Congress is unofficially closed. It takes about three hours to walk from US Capital to the Lincoln Memorial. The cool fresh air makes a long walk seems like a stroll. Joggers with their gadgets strapped on their wrists, and parent walk their children in strollers, the National Mall is a joy to watch the world goes by.

It's been awhile since I last travelled, eight months to be exact. I decided to go WASHINGTON DC for the weekend to experience the holiday season in the capital city. Turns out, it is not the place for the festive season.

angkor

One of the most ancient sites in the world, Angkor Wat is visited by millions of tourists yearly, and it is a must when in CAMBODIA. Even before sunrise, hundreds flock into Angkor Wat just to catch a glimpse of the sun rising behind and above the temples outlining the beauty of the site.

March is hot in Siem Reap but it is a pretty good time to go. Come April and May, weather is a lot more hotter, and it may be very uncomfortable to walk through the vast area that Angkor Wat covers.

It's downtown area is lively day and night with street performances and other activities.

market
The food market is vast, bustling place where you can find the freshest fruits, add the best food in the city. Here are some of the bests I've been and the list is growing.

soupalmond ginger

"We use it (rye bread) for the bread soup on Mondays and we also make some crumbs for our unique rye bread ice cream ; It is all old recipes from our family and we, Hrönn and Þórólfur, the couple who own Café Loki have been married for 26 years was raced up with such a food. You can try to make your own rye bread and then make some bread soup. The bread ends is put into water for night, then boil for 2 hours and whip until rather smooth. Put small sugar and some raisins in the end. Enjoy with a lot of cream ;)."

Café LOKI is located at Lokastígur, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland.

This may be one of the best desserts I have tasted for a long time. It was smooth, silky and tasty with flavors of almond, ginger and mlik.
